List of Vegetarian Restaurants in Paris

Here is a list of the main Vegetarian and Vegan restaurants that will be of interest to a Vegan in Paris.

Here in France the awning will say ‘vegetarian restaurant’ but they might serve fish because they are macrobiotic. I’m going to include those restaurants here, even though a fish is never going to be a vegetable. There are also many places that offer vegan food even though they are not vegetarian restaurants. They aren’t on this list, but you’ll find plenty about them elsewhere on this blog.

Restaurants come and go and their hours can be unreliable so I recommend calling first before you get your heart set on it.

Enjoy!

Hi Emily — Thanks for the great posts! I’m going to be in Paris for only part of one day (Dec 28, landing at CDG at 8:00am, and departing same day at 7:00pm). I believe I will have a lunch meeting, but I was hoping to have a vegan breakfast somewhere good. Can you recommend your favorite place I could go direct from the airport to get some delicious vegan food? Also, depending on how my business meetings go, could you recommend another restaurant I might go to prior to returning to the airport? Thanks for your help!! -Mark. (Chicago)

    Hi Mark,

I’m guessing you are coming into the center of Paris, so here are some good choices not far from Châtelet/Les Halles Station.

French breakfast is really just bread and coffee. (I have never found a vegan croissant in Paris.) It’s hard to find substantial eating before lunch. So you can get French Breakfast at any café, but Le Pain Quotidien might be your best bet since it is organic, has whole-grain bread and a good fruit plate.

If it fits into your schedule, La Victoire Suprême du Cœur does a wonderful Sunday brunch buffet starting at 11h00 12h00 [call before you go].

As for eating later in the day, since you will be leaving before the usual 19h00 dinner time, I recommend a restaurant that has “service non-stop” like Le Potager du Marais. Or, If you are short on time, pick up a legendary falafel on Rue des Rosiers.

I hope this is helpful. Bon Voyage!

“I have never found a vegan croissant in Paris”

You should try a “croissant ordinaire” which is made without egg and butter (replaced by margarine).

It was common until the 80’s. Only a few bakeries are still doing it

Hi, I was at Krishna Bhavan and in my opinion it is irresponsible to recommend restaurants in such bad parts of town. On the way there in the subway junkies causing a nuisance and upon arrival at La Chappelle there were all sorts of weird characters hanging around …

Also Gare du Nord is right next to the 18th arrondissement which is a known crime hotspot, so avoid like the plague, especially at night!!!

Single females you have been warned!

      Hi Sud,
I just posted a map that shows the location of all the veg restaurants I know about. For the other locations I write about, like chocolate shops, one trick is that the last 2 digits of the postal code tell you the “arrondissement” that it is in. Here is a good description of that system.
      Hope that is helpful,
      Emily

Great site! I’m going to copy all the text and forward it to my American son – who (after a month in Austria) is headed to Paris.

Matthew just graduated from college with a useless degree in Film. He’s a hippy vegan who, apparently, has forgotten how to shave. If anyone has any recommendations for places for a vegan boy to stay in Paris during the month of July (or London, Rome or Barcelona), please drop him an e-mail at ANTISQUEEZE@gmail.com. He’s on-line in Austria right now looking for places to go, but he says even the youth hostels in Paris are outrageously expensive. SO YOUR ADVICE IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

Just so you know he’s not creepy, his blog is http://matteofeo.blogspot.com/ (of course, as a non-vegan, I personally don’t trust anyone who won’t eat chocolate)

Hi! The gentle gourmet is introducing a new bistrot “formule” to be a bit more accessible to all pocketbooks but our food is still very organic , 100% vegan and totally fresh and seasonal
We will be doing cooking classes as of December first to help new vegans master the art of really good vegan cooking at home.
Sad news – The Victoire Supreme closed and the owners re-opened a meat based restaurant that offers a few vegetarian dishes. All Vegan Paris is sad:-(

It’s amazing we didn’t meet up while in Paris. Unfortunately I didn’t find your blog until I too moved back to California (Bay Area). I began ParisVegetarian.com when I arrived in Paris in 2007. I’m looking forward to my regular trips to find more places and write more blog posts.

Thank you for the great resource.

Any suggestions if I was looking for something a little… classic french cuisine with a spin of romance? Looking for something romantic for a special evening, as part of week in paris. Vegetarian, not necessarily vegan – fairly flexible budget. I’ve spent hours scouring the web, with nothing meeting my expectations with perhaps Maceo being the exception.

Hi PGM, One idea is L’Arpège (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/2009-07-20-paris-vegetarian-dining_N.htm) but for a more affordable meal I always found Le Potager du Marais to be quite romantic with some classic French options (they sometimes have a great vegan Moelleux au Chocolat)! Have fun!

Hello! I went to Aquarius yesterday (July 6, 2013) and they do have several options that are entirely vegan and marked as such on the menu. I’d say at least 2-3 entrées, 4-5 main dishes, and one desert. Plus about half the daily specials that are not on the menu are vegan too. Try the seaweed salad! So good.

Hi, Emily. Thank you for this great blog. We went to a wonderful little place called Le Puit de legumes at 18 rue Cardinal Lemoine. I don’t see that in your list and we had a very tasty dejeuner there – couscous avec tofu and root veggies. They had many vegan options, it looked to me, although I am not vegan myself.
