Paris loses a Vegan restaurant: La Victoire Suprême du Cœur becomes Le Passage Obligé

I was sad to hear the news that vegan restaurant La Victoire Suprême du Cœur has ceased to be and has been replaced by the new, omnivorous “Le Passage Obligé.”
The arrival of a vegetarian restaurant just two doors down from our apartment on Rue du Bourg-Tibourg always seemed like a bit of a miracle, and even more so when they went vegan. The Sunday brunch followed by a bike ride down the Seine became a family tradition for us.
But sadly, it seems that the restaurant couldn’t go on without us and just a couple of months after we left they have transformed into the Foie Gras-friendly “Le Passage Obligé”
There is one bright side: the new restaurant is run by the same “équipe,” who were always fairly well informed about what ‘vegan’ means, and the menu is clearly labelled with several vegetarian and vegan options. Also, they have vegan desserts.
I am curious whether they no longer have any ties to Sri Chinmoy… he doesn’t seem the entrecôte type.

    Hi Emily.

    Unluckily didn’t read your post before I went to the restaurant on 21st of December to have the same impression as you. Very unfortunate that is now meat-friendly however as you say some vegan dishes are left in the menu, not many but at least some, even desserts, and clearly labelled… However to me the atmosphere has changed a little bit as before I really felt eating in a vegan flagship restaurant in the heart of Europe but now just feels like being in an average vegan friendly place….     The day before I left Paris (for Africa), a vegan restaurant opened on the Boulevard Beaumarchais up road a few blocks from Bastille. Called ‘The Loving Hut’, it is run by followers of the Vietnamese meditation leader the Supreme Master Ching Hai. There is little sign of this at the restaurant other than logos, and the food is modern ‘French vegan’ (almost an oxymoron). We were happy with the food and desserts and will be going again if they are still there when we return.
